The British International School of Wrocław

BISC Wroclaw is fully accredited to offer the prestigious Cambridge International Curriculum, which provides a rich and dynamic learning environment for children. The program is divided into two stages: Key Stage 1 (KS1) and Key Stage 2 (KS2), designed to nurture students’ growth academically, socially, and emotionally.

Key Stage 1 (Ages 5-7)

Key Stage 1 comprises two year groups: Year 1 (ages 5-6) and Year 2 (ages 6-7). In Year 1, students transition to a more formal learning environment, building upon their experiences in the Early Years Programme. The focus is on social and emotional development, helping children gain confidence and independence as learners. During these early years, children begin to engage with the wider school community through participation in the school’s House system, which fosters a sense of belonging and teamwork.

Key Stage 2 (Ages 7-11)

Key Stage 2 spans four year groups: Year 3 through Year 6. The curriculum here aims to build on the skills acquired during Key Stage 1, further developing students’ ability to think critically, work independently, and take responsibility for their learning. Year 6 serves as a preparatory year, equipping students with the skills and knowledge necessary for secondary education. During these years, students take a more active role in their education and are encouraged to serve as role models for younger pupils.

Our holistic approach combines classroom-based learning with outdoor activities, including sports and gardening lessons

Both Key Stages focus on creating a stimulating and encouraging learning atmosphere where children feel supported in their growth. Small class sizes ensure that every pupil receives individualised attention, fostering close relationships between teachers and students. Our holistic approach combines classroom-based learning with outdoor activities, including sports and gardening lessons where we make use of our leafy grounds. Twice a year, the school organises winter and summer camps, allowing students to explore and learn beyond the classroom. The camps are highlights of the school experience.

Curriculum & Teaching Approach

The curriculum at BISC Wrocław follows the Cambridge International guidelines, with all lessons conducted in English. Core subjects include Literacy, Mathematics, and Science, complemented by Global Perspectives and Wellbeing. To enrich the learning experience, specialist teachers conduct lessons in Music, Art, Physical Education, Modern Foreign Languages, and Computing. These classes are held in dedicated classrooms designed to inspire creativity and innovation.

Our teaching approach emphasises hands-on learning, collaboration, and the development of critical thinking skills. Students are encouraged to explore their natural curiosity through independent and group projects, the integration of technology, and various educational trips. Through this, pupils learn to make meaningful connections between different subjects, promoting a deeper understanding of their studies.

Assessment & Progress Monitoring

At BISC Wrocław, continuous assessment ensures that every child’s progress is carefully tracked and supported. Teachers and assistants work closely with individual students to set clear learning targets and monitor achievements against the English National Curriculum standards. Assessment methods include:

  • International Standardised Benchmark Assessments in order to track and monitor student progress on a local and international scale
  • Weekly spelling quizzes
  • End-of-unit assessments in English, Maths and Science
  • Cambridge Checkpoint Assessments at the end of Year 6

This balanced assessment approach provides a comprehensive picture of each child’s development, ensuring they are well-prepared for the next stage in their education.

Throughout their time in the Primary School at BISC Wroclaw, students are guided to develop not only academically but also in terms of personal growth.
