English Support

BISC Wrocław warmly welcomes students from around the world, many of whom may be new to the English language. We recognise that newly arrived children who have had little prior exposure to English face three key challenges: keeping up with their academic studies, making new friends, and learning a completely new language that may be very different from their own.
Our English Support Programme follows age related progress indicators and is aligned with the Cambridge International Second Language Curriculum, ensuring that all learners have full access to every area of school life.
In the Primary School, English Support lessons are timetabled alongside regular English lessons, with additional support provided in place of another foreign language. Pupils focus on practising English language skills and typically transition out of the English Support Programme within 3 months to two years – depending on the level at which they entered the programme. Time and time again we celebrate the pupils who arrive at BISC with little or no knowledge of the English language and become fluent and confident users in speaking, listening, reading and writing.
In the Secondary School, English Support lessons are offered in much the same way for students in Years 7 and 8, with students in Years 9-11 following the Cambridge IGCSE Second Language curriculum.
Pupils receive regular lessons in small, focused groups, which are key contributing factors to the excellent English results achieved in IGCSE ESL over the years.
Students in Years 12 and 13 receive targeted support as they prepare for the IELTS and TOEFL exams that serve as a university entrance requirement for most international students.
