Richard JohnsonHi! My name is Richard Johnson, and I am the new English teacher in the secondary school. I have been a teacher for over twenty-five years: previously in Poland in the 1990s (when it was a very different country), in Sweden, and for the past twenty years in Yorkshire, in the UK, from whence I hail (I regard myself as a very proud Yorkshireman). I am really looking forward to experience of again living and working in Poland, and especially at BISC Wroclaw, about which I have heard many good things.
Outside of the classroom I have fairly extensive interests – I have coached rugby and cricket for a number of years (I imagine there isn’t much call for the latter in Wroclaw), and am a very keen road cyclist. I generally like the outdoor life – hiking, camping, skiing, and so on. More contemplatively, I like the cinema (my initial interest in Poland was sparked by the films of Kieslowski), opera, books, cafes and coffee (MUCH improved in Poland!). As I am often asked, ‘favourite’ books and authors include The Great Gatsby, Moby Dick, anything by Dickens, John Le Carre, In Search of Lost Time and Dubliners: not much modern ‘stuff’ in there I’m afraid. I’ve also recently become enamoured of the Polish author (and Wroclawian?) Olga Tokarczuk. Always receptive to new recommendations… I’m still finding my feet, but very much looking forward to working with colleagues and pupils at BISC Wroclaw. Richard Johnson |
